About

About Achil Complex

Remote fortified town on Achil ridge between Utcubamba and Huabayacu tributaries of Marañón: 60 circular houses, watchtower 8 m diameter on ridge apex, and 150 m defensive wall with parapet. Trail balustrades indicate Inca post-conquest resurfacing for chasqui relay. Poorly studied, noted in 1970s Guengerich Chachapoya survey.

Why it mattersTrans-Andean fort controlling eastern Chachapoyas frontier to Marañón lowlands, rarely visited.
