About

About Alto Ramírez Norte Crest Geoglyphs (Pampa Gallinazo Crest)

Pampa-crest field 5 km east of classic Lluta km 60 slopes, on flat deflation surface (1,280 m) above Azapa–Lluta drainage divide. Unlike hillside figures, comprises 22 horizontal pavement geoglyphs: 30–85 m geometric avenues, 12 m concentric circles, 45 m arrow, and 18 m lizard oriented NW toward Azapa. Built by sweeping 2–4 cm varnished gravel to expose pale saline crust; stone curbs prevent wind encroachment. Associated with Pampa Gallinazo apachetas and Type-2 Lluta ceramics (650–900 CE). Functions as summit wayfinder visible 3 km both valleys; lithium drone survey 2023 revealed subsurface alignments via magnetometry.

Why it mattersOnly horizontal (non-hillside) Alto Ramírez pampa-crest field linking two valleys.
