Aroer (Khirbat Arair) guards the Arnon (Mujib) gorge crossing on King's Highway south of Dibon — Mesha Stele 'Aroer' taken from Gad. Fort with Iron Moabite cistern and Nabataean caravanserai (incense road). Glueck survey and later excavation show Iron casemate, Nabataean faunal cistern and Roman watchtower over gorge.
