About Banbhore
Banbhore is the 2nd century BCE–13th century CE port of Debal (Greek Barbaricum) on the Gharo Creek delta, a 47-ha tell (8 m high) with Scytho-Parthian (glazed ware), Hindu–Buddhist (8th century Shiva temple), and Islamic (8th century mosque — earliest in South Asia, 727–32 CE) superimposed layers. Excavated by F.A. Khan (1958–65) and Cousens (1928), the Hindu temple (11×18 m, Lingam) and the Kufic-inscribed mosque (32×18 m) lie 100 m apart, with Harappan sherds at base proving 4000-year continuity. At 12 m delta mudflat, the fort wall (1.5 km) with bastions controlled Indus–Oman trade; Bin Qasim's 712 siege is recorded in Chachnama.
