Borre (Borrehaugene, Borre mound cemetery) — Viking Age royal mound park (c.600–900 CE, 7 great mounds 6–9 m high 35–45 m diam, 25 smaller cairns) 5 km east Horten on Oslofjord east shore, Vestfold's dynastic centre. Excavated G. Gustafson 1852 and 1980s Myhre: Borre style animal art eponym (Borre Style 850–950), ship burial traces, 7 royal mounds and old sacrifice bog (Gokstad–Borre–Oseberg Vestfold triangle). Midgard Viking centre adjacent. National park 18.4 ha, museum Midgard Viking. Satellite Oseberg (25 km S) and Kaupang (20 km). Borre–Borrehaugene as Vestfold Yngling dynasty possible 9th c assembly. Oslofjord Vestfold dominance before Harald Fairhair.
