Chilhudzhra (Fortress of Forty Daughters) — Sogdian–Islamic mountain fortress (5th–13th c CE) 60 km east Panjakent, Zeravshan valley Fann foothills, excavated 1960s–80s Negmatov and Pulatov. Chilhudzhra occupies 1.2 ha hilltop with double walls (mudbrick on stone socle), 12 towers, palace and fire temple layer (5th c Sasanian–Turk) and 10th–12th c Samanid–Karakhanid phase. Controlled Zeravshan–Penjikent pass. Legend of 40 daughters defence vs Arabs. Thin 5th–8th c mural fragments and Sogdian pottery. Abandoned after Mongol 1221.
