About
About Cuba Moray Eel Pseudo-Harbour – Guanahacabibes Second Platform
A second Guanahacabibes platform west of the 2001 'Cuban underwater city' sonar at 21.82°N 84.5°W, at 700 m depth off María la Gorda, touted as a 'moray-eel harbour' with elongated shadows interpreted as pre-photographic harbour walls. The claim appears after the first platform's 800 m terrace was geologically explained as karst limestone fracture grid at Miocene–Pliocene drowned reef. The 2021 'moray eel' elongated sonar shadows are light-watermarked sonar mosaics of fractured reef at 700 m, where harbour construction at 700 m bathyal depth is hydrostatic impossibility for any human harbour. Cuban MININT classified sonar as geological.
Why it mattersExample of deep-water sonar pareidolia; debunk anchors marine geology vs sonar artefact literacy.
