About

About Debeira — Pyramidal Tombs of the Nubian C-Group

Double cemetery across Nile at Debeira East (Sudan) and West, excavated by Scandinavian Joint Expedition and Adams (1961–64) before High Dam. Sequence spans C-Group stone tumuli (circular superstructures), Kerma tumuli, New Kingdom Egyptian-style small pyramids with pylon and chapel for viceregal officials, Christian church on mound and Meroitic pyramids re-used. The small pyramidal superstructures with vaulted chapels mirror Tombos but earlier, proving Egyptian pyramid tradition adaptation in Nubia beyond classic Kushite pyramids.

Why it mattersContinuous funerary sequence illustrating pyramid mound adoption from C-Group tumulus to Kushite pyramid.
