About

About Din Lligwy Hut Circle Settlement

Romano-British hut-circle village enclosed by polygonal stone wall (c.400–500 CE? foundations late Iron Age), perched on limestone ridge inland from Lligwy Bay, Anglesey. Sub-rectangular walled enclosure ~30 x 35 m contains two stone roundhouses (6 m and 7 m diameter) and rectangular foundations within courtyard, plus hearths and drainage. Excavated early 20th century revealing Samian, mortaria and coins 3rd–4th century CE, plus earlier Iron Age sherds. Interpreted as Late Roman native farmstead with reoccupation in Early Medieval period. Managed by Cadw as accessible scheduled ancient village above coastal plain.
