About Djeddars of Frenda — Berber Royal Tombs
Djeddars of Frenda are 13 Berber royal pyramid-mausoleums (4th–7th c CE) on two Tiaret plateau hills 30 km S of Tiaret, square bazina with pyramidal steps 20×20 m base, 18 m high with chapels and galleries inside. Largest Djeddar B and C combine Berber base with Christian cross vaults. Inscriptions in Latin. Transitional between pagan Medracen and Islamic tombs. Threatened by quarry. UNESCO tentative 2002. Frenda station 4.5 km N of Zag el Djedj monument hill.
Why it mattersOnly pyramid mausoleum tradition in Maghreb bridging Numidian Medracen and Islamic marabout.
