About

About Estotiland – Corte-Real Phantom Labrador of Zeno

Nicolò Zeno's second phantom: Estotiland (1558) allegedly discovered by Frisland fisherman 300 yrs prior, then mapped as large hook-shaped island east of Drogio. Correlation by Nordenskiöld (1897) to Labrador (S. Labrador's large island appearance from sea). Influenced Mercator, Ruscelli. Labrador reals 1497 Cabot, 1500 Gaspar Corte-Real and Jacques Cartier 1534 fix Estotiland as Newfoundland/Labrador mainland, but island stays on maps until 1620 Waghenaer corrects to 'Terra de Laborador' peninsula.

Why it mattersVinland-Atlas chain — Estotiland belongs to genera Markland–Vinland Zeno drift before secure Corte-Real lat.
