About Fayaz Tepe Buddhist Monastery

Kushan Buddhist monastery at Termez northern oasis, 1.5 ha courtyard with central stupa, monks' cells and altar building, excavated 1960s by Pugachenkova. Destroyed mid-3rd cent CE fire preserves murals showing Buddha and procession including image interpreted as Alexander, demonstrating Kushan Buddhist syncretism on Oxus corridor between Kampyr and Dalverzin.
