About
About Fuxian Lake – Dian Kingdom Sunken City, Yunnan
Fuxian Lake hides a Warring States–Han Dian kingdom town submerged 20 m beneath the 155 m-deep lake's north basin. Sonar and diver surveys since 1992 (Li Kunsheng, Zhang Zengqi) mapped a 2 km² walled enclosure with rammed-earth wall traces at –15 to –20 m, pyramid-like platform 30 m side, pottery with Dian frog motifs, bronze Dian sword molds. The lake's fault-line subsidence after Western Han (c. 30 CE) drowned the lakeside port; cores show lacustrine mud sealing Eastern Zhou brick. The platform's stone masonry, distinct from natural lake bottom, proves anthropogenic. Dian bronze drum typology anchors chronology.
Why it mattersOnly Dian submerged town; wall and pyramid anchor Dian lakeside urbanism and western Yunnan fault chronology.
