About

About Girmeler Cave

Karst cave on the Lycian plateau above Fethiye (Seydikemer) with 14,000-year stratified sequence from Epipalaeolithic hunter burials to Aceramic Neolithic caprine herding, overlapping the Höyücek seed-crop horizon 5 km away. Excavated since 2011 by Taner Korkut, brecciated burials, microliths, marine shells and early Fikirtepe-influenced pottery trace the forager-to-farmer transition on the Turquoise Coast.

Why it mattersLongest Epipalaeolithic-Neolithic sequence in Lycia bridging coastal foragers to Central Anatolian farmers.
