About Gò Tháp (Óc Eo–Funan Center)
Gò Tháp — Funan (Óc Eo culture) port-city centre (2nd–12th c CE) 25 km north Cao Lanh, Thap Muoi Mekong floodplain, excavated 1998–2010s Le Xuan Diem and DAA. Gò Tháp is the inland Óc Eo capital counterpart to Oc Eo (An Giang coastal port): brick Vishnu temple (6th c), 3 m high mound with Funan furnace, Roman bead imports, Indian pottery, and Mekong canal network linking Thap Muoi to An Giang and Mekong mouth. Associated with Funan kingdom of Ptolemy, Chinese Funan chronicles (1st–6th c). Buddhist–Hindu syncretic (Vishnu, Buddha). UNESCO tentative Funan–Oc Eo.
