About

About Gorgippia — Northern Basin Breakwater Extension (Anapa Bay North)

Northern breakwater extension of Gorgippia (modern Anapa) in Anapa Bay north basin, where the Sindian-Bosporan port's northern mole now lies 1–3 m submerged. Distinct from southern harbour quarter already in database, this northern basin preserves 150 m ashlar breakwater at –2 m, northern quay with warehouse podium at –1.5 m and 3rd c. BCE stone-anchor scatter mapped 2018 Anapa Museum diving. Founded by Gorgippos (Sindic Bosporan) c. 390 BCE, Gorgippia was Bosporan wine and slave port until 240 CE Gothic abandonment. Northern mole shielded northeasters and connected Via Sindica.

Why it mattersNorthern basin proves bipartite Gorgippia harbour; breakwater ashlar anchors Sindian-Bosporan masonry transition and Anapa Bay progradation curve.
