About Hegra (Mada'in Salih)
Southernmost major Nabataean city on incense route, Hegra preserves 111 rock-cut tombs with facades akin to Petra (but freestanding massifs), hydrological wells, and Roman annexation inscriptions. Qasr al-Farid single isolated tomb, Jabal Ithlib sanctuary with Diwan congregation hall, and mudbrick walled town. Saudi Arabia's first World Heritage Site (2008), demonstrates Nabataean adaptation to hyper-arid sandstone desert.
