Nguyen dynasty capital (1802–1945) and last imperial city of Vietnam inside 10 km vauban-style citadel (Kinh Thanh, 1804–1832, 2.5×2.5 km square with 4 m thick bastioned walls copied from French military engineer Vauban via Nguyen Anh's French advisors). Within: 520 ha Imperial City (Hoang Thanh) and Purple Forbidden City (Tu Cam Thanh) with Ngo Mon Gate five-phoenix Pavilion, Thai Hoa Palace and Nine Dynastic Urns; seven Nguyen tombs south along Perfume River.

Why it mattersOnly Vauban–fengshui hybrid capital in East Asia; last intact Nguyễn monarchy ensemble; 1968 Tet battle within UNESCO site makes modern war heritage layer.
