Walled Hellenistic city on Euphrates east bank opposite Tell Qannas, excavated by Graeme Clarke (Australian). Seleucus I foundation (301 BCE) with Hippodamian grid, acropolis Temple of Artemis, governor's palace and lower city — frozen Hellenistic plan little overbuilt. Now above Lake Assad fringe.

Why it mattersOnly fully gridded Seleucid foundation on Syrian Euphrates (301 BCE) — urban planning fossil with temples and palatial quarter.
