Kalambo Falls on the Kalambo River marking Zambia–Tanzania border 35 km north of Mbala — second highest single-drop fall in Africa (221 m uninterrupted) and site where 2023 BAR announcement of 476,000-year-old interlocking log structure (notched logs with 75-cm notch) — earliest wood architecture on Earth, predates Homo sapiens, attributed to Acheulean foragers. 10-m thick stratified cultural deposit in fall gorge holds Acheulean handaxes, Sangoan, Lupemban, Magosian and Iron Age pits over 500,000 years. J. Desmond Clark classic sequence from 1956. Wood preserved in 25 ka waterlogged clay.
