About Karon (Darvaz Karon)

Karon — Pamir mountain city-fortress (1st–15th c CE) 2000 m on Darvaz plateau, Panj gorge, excavated 2010s Bobomulloev (Tajik Academy). Karon occupies 100 ha plateau with 300+ stone houses, double defensive walls 2.5 km, citadel with Sasanian–Samanid palace, Zoroastrian? shrine, and 15th c Timurid pottery. Controlled Darvaz–Badakhshan Lapis road (Panj ford). 700-year stone architecture with Pamir schist, Buddhist and Islamic layers, and Badakhshan ruby provenance theory. Destroyed by earthquake 15th c and abandoned.
