Late Formative–Early Classic nucleus (350 BCE–600 CE) of northwestern Yucatán before Dzibilchaltun florescence, 2 km² settlement with 1000+ peripheral housemounds and triadic pyramid 8 m high. Ceramic production of Komchen Red Slate ware; evidence of salt-boiling trade to Petén. E. Wyllys Andrews 1980–81 type-site for Formative lithics.
