Mountain sanctuary of Zeus Labraundos (Carian sky god with double axe labrys) on pine ridge above Mylasa. Hecatomnid dynasty (Mausolus and Idrieus) built Andron palaces with Carian and Ionic orders, monumental staircase, Temple of Zeus (4th c. BCE) and double-axe Fountain House on sacred spring. Sacred paved road 14 km lined by tombs connected to Mylasa. Reveals Carian–Greek hybridity before Hellenization.
Why it mattersOnly intact Hecatomnid sanctuary; key to Carian identity before Mausoleum.
