About

About Lepsius I Pyramid at Abu Rawash

Enormous denuded mound at Abu Rawash north (Lepsius I), sometimes attributed to ephemeral Huni (?) or early 4th Dynasty. Base estimated 215 m (largest provincial base ever) height ~20 m today of limestone rubble and mudbrick. Possibly unfinished giant step pyramid or platform, never cased; no substructure found in limited trenches (Lepsius 1843, Maragioglio-Rinaldi). Overlooks Nile Delta apex 35 km north. Only pyramid candidate north of Athribis; northernmost Huni network hypothetical.

Why it mattersIf Huni attribution correct, northernmost provincial pyramid marking Delta mouth; demonstrates scale ambition at Abu Rawash before Djedefre; Lepsius list original #1.
