Maheshwar Narmada Ghat Settlement — ancient Mahishmati (Mahabharata, Kalidasa) on Narmada ghat 2 km north of Navdatoli, excavated with Navdatoli 1952–57 showing Early Historic Mart 6th c BCE → Gupta Ahilya Fort 18th c. Maheshwar revealed 14 m deposit: Chalcolithic → Early Historic NBPW with northern black polished ware, Gupta Vishnu Temple, Paramara 10th–12th c fort wall, and Holkar Ahilyabai 1760s ghat (Madhya Pradesh's most sacred Narmada ghat). Mahishmati fort wall (5 ha) controls Narmada ford. Continuous 3500-year sequence from Malwa Chalcolithic to Holkar.
