About Millbarrow (Winterbourne Monkton Long Barrow)
Chambered long barrow 2 km north of Avebury near Winterbourne Monkton, built c.3750 BCE and excavated 1963–64 by Paul Ashbee. The 30 m trapezoidal mound contains a transepted chamber complex with a rare stone wall facade; human bone from multiple individuals and Mortlake pottery were recovered. Despite being within the Avebury WHS buffer, it retains a rural setting under permanent pasture.
