About
About Mu – James Churchward's Lost Pacific Continent (Pseudo-Continent)
James Churchward (1926–31) claimed Mu was a Pacific continent 5,000x3,000 miles from Hawaii to Fiji, population 64 million, founder of Maya, Egypt and India, sunk 14,000 BCE after gas-belt collapse — based on alleged Naacal tablets from India he never produced. August Le Plongeon 1880s equated Mu to Plato Atlantis via misread Troano Codex (Maya mu = 'water'). Geology shows no Mu plateau: central Pacific abyssal plain at −4000 m is 140 Ma oceanic crust with magnetic lineations proving spreading, not sunken continent; no andesite sial that floats.
Churchward Naacal never found; Sclater Lemuria (1858) was lemur biogeography bridge, not Mu. Included as broadest Pacific pseudo-continent demonstrating 5,000 mile continent claim vs −4000 m abyssal plain.
Why it mattersMaximal Pacific pseudo-continent; demonstrates Naacal tablet failure, gas-belt isostatic impossibility, and lemur bridge vs Mu co-option.

Mysteries & theories
Mysteries
- 01Why Churchward chose Hawaii-Fiji span (Pacific width illusion)
- 02Whether any real Pacific plateau was mistaken for Mu (Hawaii hotspot chain)
Theories
- 01Mu is post-hoc India-to-America diffusionism via Pacific rather than Beringia
- 02Naacal was invented to parallel Blavatsky Theosophy Mu
Theories are interpretations, not findings. The seal above tells you how much scholarly weight the place carries.
