Elaborate lost continent synthesized 1926–31 by British Lt. Col. James Churchward from misread 'Naacal tablets' (actually fabricated) claiming to translate Mexican priest's tablets giving history of Mu, motherland of man 50k years ago, destroyed 12k BCE. Placed Pacific to explain Easter Island / Nan Madol / Yonaguni as remnants despite no Sanskrit / Dravidian support; borrowed Augustus Le Plongeon's 1896 Maya-Mu (based on faulty Landa). Churchward claimed survivors became Egyptians, Maya, Dravidians. Geology: Pacific plate basalt not continental granite; 4000 m abyssal plain with systematic soundings proves absent. Directly opposed to real Beringia/Sundaland.
