About Myos Hormos — Eastern Reef Channel Harbour at Marsa Nakari

/natural channel through the fossil reef at 2–5 m depth, lined with Roman concrete (pozzolana) cutwater 18 m long on the northern wall and a mooring pier 12 m on the southern wall. The channel allowed Mediterranean hulls drawing 3 m to enter the lagoon from the open Red Sea despite 1-m tidal range. The reef flat carries Indo-Roman ballast (basalt from Arabian coast) and a wreck field (Periplus-era? Dressel 2–4 shatter) at 5 m. 2 m dates 4200 BCE (coral radiocarbon), providing Red Sea sea-level index.

2 m at low tide by coral growth (+1 mm/yr) after 500 CE abandonment, now impassable to yachts except at spring high.

Why it mattersOnly Roman reef-channel harbour with preserved pozzolana in Red Sea; coral reef sea-level and growth calibration point.
