About

About Nafud Desert Kites - Hail Fringe

Cluster of 22 sand-edge desert kites along the hard hammada margin where the Nafud al-Kabir dune field meets the Hail gravel plain, forming the southern extension of the Jubbah kite province. 1-m thorn-brush foundation sill still visible as rubble line, dated by under-wall hearth C14 to 5500-4200 BCE. Unlike Harraat basalt kites, Nafud kites incorporate dune-foot alignment - drive walls parallel windward slip-face to intercept oryx moving along interdune corridors.

5 ky old. 2021 aerial AI survey by APAAME linked kites to Jubbah rock art phase of long-horned cattle.

Why it mattersSand-edge kite adaptation proves Neolithic hunters engineered dune-corridor intercept, not only basalt-field kites.
