About Nzulezo — Stilt Village on Lake Tadane
Nzulezo is a 400-year Nzema stilt village on Lake Tadane (Amansuri Lagoon) with 500+ houses on reflux mangrove piles 1–2 m above 5 km lake. Built by Nzema fleeing Ashanti wars under Ewusi 16th c, preserved Nzulenzale law—water is sacred, no death on water (corpse taken ashore). Dugout canoe access 30 min. 15 km Tadane wetland is Ramsar. Wooden walkways, 2-storey stilt houses with raffia, church, school. UNESCO tentative 2000. Oil threat from Jubilee field 15 km SW.
Why it mattersOnly preserved Ghanaian stilt village illustrating Akan war-refuge lake urbanism and water taboo.
