Northern breakwater protecting Olbia's Berezan Island approach channel: a 70-m double rubble mole at 4–6 m depth across the Bug Liman northern fairway, visible on 2015 multibeam sonar. 5 m), providing a Holocene sea-level index. Classical ceramics (5th c. Attic) in mole core date construction to 470–400 BCE, when Olbia's thalassocracy required protected access between Berezan (early colony) and the mainland city. The mole's northern face carries Late Roman repair with mortar.
Post-2nd c. 5 m) overtopped the crest, now navigational reef marked on Ukrainian charts.
Why it mattersOnly Greek breakwater with sealed mid-Holocene forest underneath — dual sea-level archive (forest + mole). Documents Olbia-Berezan island corridor.
