Gigantic capital built 1279 BCE by Seti I/ Ramesses II atop Hyksos countryside to tap Pelusiac active branch; 10 km², 18×? greatest city in Bronze Age world (pop. ~300k estimate), with chariot workshops, horse stables for 460 teams (Pusch excavation), glass and faience factories (Lab A), harbour canals, and Amun temple To – then entirely abandoned within 150 years as Pelusiac silted by 1070 BCE forcing move to Tanis. Vandeweghe's geomagnetic survey revealed plan beneath fields with no surface trace – the 'lost mega-city' hidden in plain sight. Exodus 'Raamses' store city.

Why it mattersLargest known Bronze Age city; unique industrial archaeology (chariotry and glass experiments); demonstrates river-shift-driven urban abandonment and monument recycling to Tanis.
