Siga (Takembrit) at the Tafna mouth — capital of Massaeslian king Syphax (212–203 BCE) captured by Massinissa with Gaia's horsemen, thereafter royal Mauretanian harbour under Vermina and Bocchus, with Punic tophet, coin mint of Syphax elephant/horse types, Roman customs station controlling Tafna emporium and Numidian Grain Route. Hilltop citadel with cyclopean walls, lower-town Byzantine fortlet and Roman bridge pier across Tafna. Syphax's tomb traditionally on hill.
Why it mattersOnly excavated Massaesylian capital attributing coin-iconography to Syphax; Tafna harbour chronicle of Numidian state formation.
