About Soknopaiou Nesos — Western Lagoon Anchorage at Dime
4 m with lake clay and Roman period fish bones (Tilapia) and net weights. The anchorage served fishing and private estates (Appianus archive mentions Dime fisheries) rather than pilgrimage, with a small rubble jetty 14 m at its mouth. The western lagoon desiccated earlier than central harbour (1st c. CE) as Moeris western lobe shallowed, trapping fish and ending lagoon fishery by 200 CE, as evidenced by fish-bone mass death layer. The anchorage preserves a rare Fayum inland fishery archive alongside papyri.
