About Tabo Temple Mound on Argo Island
Kushite temple (Argo Island, largest Nile island c.30 km long) founded Taharqo 25th Dynasty (688 BCE) over New Kingdom levels, 35×25 m sandstone temple with pylon, pronaos and sanctuary on granite outcrop, with surrounding town mound 250×180 m and elite pyramidal tombs east. Later Meroitic church built within temple. Excavated Hinkel-CRA survey 1960s–2000s, El-Kurru team. Temple aligned east to Jebel Barkal line of sight 60 km south. Strategic island granary between Dongola and Third Cataract.
