About Tall al-‘Umayri (Tell el-Umeiri)

Citadel tell controlling Wadi Umayri, excavated Andrews MPP (Larry Herr) since 1984. Late Bronze–Iron defensive town with famous 13th c. BCE “four-room house” (earliest in Levant), Iron I Ammonite citadel with casemate and rampart, and Persian farmstead. 10 m deep EB–Persian sequence with MBA cyclopean fortifications and LB wine-press. Demonstrates Ammonite emergence: fieldstone houses with collared pithoi and collared-rim ware. Lower agricultural terraces buried in wadi.
