About
About Teos Dionysus North Temenos
North temenos annexe 110 m north of the famed Hermogenes-designed Teos Temple of Dionysus (6×11 hexastyle, peripteral, frieze by Menestheus, largest Dionysus temple in Ionia, 3rd–2nd c. BCE). The north annexe preserves the temenos wall, altar courtyard with Dionysus cult bothros and a 9-m Hellenistic Doric propylon marking the sacred-way entry from the harbour mole. The north temenos was the City Dionysia processional staging area and housed the Technitai of Dionysus (actors' guild) assembly hall — the institutional seat that Inc. liv. 23 attests shaped Hellenistic theatre.
Why it mattersActor-guild hall of Hellenistic Asia — seat of the Technitai of Dionysus shaping theatre at the largest Dionysus temple in Ionia.
