Low mound in Altınova 21 km east of Elazığ, 1 km west of Norşuntepe, excavated 1971–74 by Arsebük and Esin before Keban flooding. Four Halaf-Ubaid levels with superb painted pottery, tripartite houses and copper tools anchor the Upper Euphrates Chalcolithic. Road construction had already truncated the south flank.
Why it mattersType Halaf-Ubaid transition sequence for Altınova, key to Upper Euphrates Chalcolithic chronology.
