Roman military colony Ad Piscinam / Vescera at Biskra's oasis edge, headquarters for the Limes Nigrensis. 4th-c. camp (300×200 m), bathhouse with Triton mosaic and 6th-c. Christian basilica with Donatist martyr chapels. Palms fed Legio III Augusta via Fossatum Africae seguidas.
