About
About Wadi Arabah Desert Kite Cluster (Arava Rift Valley)
Rift-valley kite cluster (18 m asl, lowest kites globally) on the Arava (Wadi Arabah) alluvial fan floor 22 km north of Eilat, 18 km south of Yotvata, straddling Israel–Jordan frontier. 0 m deep) at funnel apex—Meshel's 'V-shaped small' Negev–Sinai type, contrasting with Harrat's large funnel-star. 35 m high single course. Function debate: Nadel argues ibex migration bottleneck through Arava graben; Horwitz suggests onager. Chalcolithic lithics + copper slag near kite AR-4 links to Timna copper mining 15 km NW—miners hunting supplement.
Unique hyper-arid rift ecology: kites spaced along 12 km of alluvial fan toe at 120 m elevation bands.
Why it mattersLowest-elevation kites (18 m asl) and Negev-type V-form; Timna copper-mining subsistence link.
