About

About Wari Willka

Wari Willka in Huari village 6 km south of Huancayo, Junín, is a Mantaro Valley Wari oracle temple at 3,250 m. Revered from Early Intermediate Huarpa through Wari (600–900 CE) and Wanka–Inca, its 30m platform caps a subterranean pakcha tunnel (15m) lined with fine Wari ashlar, trapezoidal niches and a capacocha-like offering crypt where high-altitude infant and camelid sacrifices were later reported by Spanish extirpators. The hill's groundwater gush fed the shrine. Excavated by Lumbreras and José Ochatoma, it remains a living wak'a for Huancayo communities despite modern threats.
