About Yaniktepe (Tappeh Yanik)
Yaniktepe (Tappeh Yanik) in West Azerbaijan, Urmia Basin, Iran is a Early Bronze (3500–2200 BCE) tell of Early Transcaucasian (Kura-Araxes) tradition. Urmia basin ETC village linking Caucasus–Anatolia. 3500 BCE, the site forms a stratified mound/karst mound 180×140 m, 8 m etc–iron, kura-araxes house plans. Excavations since the mid-20th c. expose mudbrick with timber lacing, early transcaucasian black burnished ware, copper slag architecture with diagnostic ceramics, lithics and administrative finds.
Archaeobotany and radiocarbon anchor the sequence, informing regional Early Transcaucasian (Kura-Araxes) networks across the West Azerbaijan. Threats include erosion, agriculture, dam; research continues on Early Transcaucasian (Kura-Araxes) chronology.
