About Akoris — Central Harbour Terrace at Tihna el-Gabal
Central rock-cut harbour terrace of Akoris (Per-Medjed), 12th Dynasty rock-cut tomb cliff repurposed as Graeco-Roman Nile harbour and limestone quarry port at Tihna el-Gabal, now buried under 3–5 m Nile silt at the cliff foot. 5 m draft for limestone barge export to Antinoopolis (Hadrian's city 8 km south). The cliff above carries 30+ rock-cut tombs (Fraser Tombs group) and the temple of Nero (quarry shrine) with Djed-Medjed inscription. Quarry marks (wedge slots 4th c.
CE) date peak extraction to Diocletian's Antinoopolis build. 2 m after Nile branch shift post-500 CE, burying the basin under pump-irrigated fields.
