16, third Dorian Rhodian city-state alongside Kamiros and Lindos. Mixed stratigraphy: Late Minoan (1700 BCE) habitation, Mycenaean cemetery, Geometric Athena temple (8th BCE), Classical Doric temple 3rd BCE (6×12 Doric) on earlier Archaic foundation, Early Byzantine basilica, Knights Hospitaller monastery 14th CE and Italian restoration 1926. Athena Polias of Ialysos, Doric festival centre. Excavated Jacopi 1928– and Laurenzi. Unlike Kamiros fountain agora, Ialysos emphasizes vertical sacred road and panoramic strait views to Chalki and Asia Minor.
