About
About Kamiros Temple of Athena Polias — Rhodes Hilltop Terrace
Acropolis of Kamiros, the western Rhodian city-state (6th c. BCE) on NW Rhodes above Kamiros Skala, 36.336,27.922, one of Rhodes' three Dorian founders (Kamiros, Ialysos, Lindos synoecized 408 BCE into Rhodes City). Hilltop Doric Athena Polias temple (6th-century predecessor, Hellenistic rebuild) crowns terraces with fountain agora fed by 200-m aqueduct and stoa — best-preserved Rhodian agora besides Lindos. Italian M. Segre 1928–39 and Greek K. Konstantinopoulos excavations after 1912 Dodecanese. Unlike Ialysos Filerimos Athena, Kamiros preserves complete Hellenistic fountain reservoir urbanism with Doric hierarchy. UNESCO Tentative Rhodes Medieval City buffer.
Why it mattersFinest Rhodian fountain agora and Dorian city-state acropolis before synoecism, model for Hellenistic urban hydraulics.
