93), third jewel of Tianshan–Tarim alongside Kizil (70 km) and Bezeklik (Turpan). 112 caves surviving (orig 112? 15 major) 4th–11th c. 450 CE Wei to 11th c. Uyghur, central pillar type with Maitreya and Hinayana Dharmaguptaka murals: diamond vault, lapis lazuli blue (Afghan), pipa and konghou musicians, Tocharian donor carts. , Kumtura shows Kuchan late style 7th–8th c. with Tang high color and Uyghur Mongolian 13th c. graffiti overlay. Weigan–Muzart River gorge as Kucha western gate guarding Iron Gate Pass to Tian Shan.
