About

About Mitathal

Key Indus Eastern Domain type-site (c.3000–1500 BCE) on the Drishadvati–Sarasvati divide at Bhiwani, Haryana — two mounds (A 23 ha citadel, B 10 ha lower town) excavated 1968 by Suraj Bhan revealing Pre-Harappan Sothi (Period I), Mature Harappan (IIA) and Late Harappan/OCP (IIB). Famous for first Harappan steatite seal east of Indus core, faience bead factory, copper flat axe, and wheat-barley-millet archaeobotany demonstrating Haryana as Harappan breadbasket; geologic provenance shows bead raw material from Khetri copper belt 200 km away.

Why it mattersEastern limit of mature Harappan seal distribution; proves Khetri copper trade east of Indus; Eastern Domain type-site.
