Sai Island northern town (Upper Nubia) on island mid-Nile between 2nd and 3rd Cataracts: Egyptian walled town 238×120 m with Amun temple (Thutmose III–Amenhotep II), governor's residence and pyramid-chapel cemetery (SAIC) for colonial officials. Excavated by Azim-Mission Archéologique Française (1954) and Francis Geus Lille-Vienna 1996-2012 with Ottoman levels above. Pyramid chapels 5-6 m base for officials. Controls gold and ivory trade. Demonstrates New Kingdom Egyptian colonization island strategy.
