About Sai Island Pyramid Field
New Kingdom Egyptian temple-town on Sai Island (Thutmose III) with northern town fortified settlement, Egyptian temple for Amun (later Kushite), and associated small pyramids and shaft tombs in cemetery SAC5 (1500–700 BCE). Pyramids 6–10 m base, mudbrick over shaft with chapel, Egyptian and Nubian hybrid. Excavated by Vercoutter (French), later Gratien-Geus and Budka Vienna mission. Ottomane Fort and later Christian remains overlay. Largest Nile island settlement showing Egyptian colonial urbanism at Second Cataract frontier.
